Abloom Skincare: Slow, Raw & Alive

Abloom Skincare: Slow, Raw & Alive

Abloom was one of the very first skincare brands we brought in when we opened 13 years ago (can you believe it?!). And it’s remained one of our absolute favourites ever since. It’s one of those brands that sits beautifully on the shelf, just a nice small range that doesn’t scream or shout. The people who buy it tend to be the ones who’ve loved it for years, and often tried it once and were hooked for life!

Plenty of our brands are in the media and have global spotlight (we love those too, or we wouldn’t stock them). But Abloom keeps a low profile, and we want to change that, because it is genuinely one of the most beautiful skincare ranges you’ll ever try.

We’ve featured individual products across newsletters and blogs many times, but we’ve never given the whole line its moment. So here we are to tell you all about Abloom, what makes it special, and why, if you give it a go, you probably won’t want to be without it again.

What is Abloom all about?

If we treat skin like a decoration, we would choose products that look pretty. If we treat skin like an organ with a job to protect, expel and balance, then we would choose products that work with it. And that’s Abloom in a nut shell really, a range built so skin can do its job better, not just look good for a moment.

Abloom works with organic or wild crafted botanicals grown on land that’s been pesticide free for three years, so you’re getting the plant’s life force, not any nasty residues. And if pesticide free wasn’t enough, they go a step further by spraying seawater over crops and enriching the soil with minerals and shells to support nutrient density (seriously, who else is doing that?!)

They skip the usual irritants like mineral oils, microplastics, and harsh antibacterials like triclosan, because skin simply doesn’t need the hassle. Fragrance is also a classic troublemaker, often showing as the mysterious parfum in the ingredients list. So Abloom avoids it, and keeps things nice and gentle.

This next bit is really special, and requires what most brands probably don’t have the patience for — time! Abloom lets botanicals rest for around 90 days at body temperature (never above ~34°C), then cold presses three times to retain potency. They avoid heat, as it can flatten enzymes and delicate phytonutrients.

Whereas slow extraction preserves potency so those compounds can actually perform on your skin. Giving the plant matter time also allows a higher concentration of active substances to diffuse into the extract, whilst ensuring that none of the plant’s power is lost. Just like a lovely cup of tea, brewing for goodness.

Instead of bulking with water, Abloom uses aloe vera as the base. This means the actives aren’t diluted before they even reach your skin, and the base itself is soothing and contributory. You also get the full matrix of polyphenols, antioxidants, minerals, lipids, amino acids, and enzymes working together. This supports resilience over time and can activate Nrf2 pathways (the body’s defence switch), influencing 250+ protective genes involved in detoxification, cellular repair and calming inflammation. In everyday terms, this means better support against modern stressors (pollution, processed foods, hormone disruptors, general life etc).

Little Fact: Mineral oil does trap water, but it can sit on skin like a film and hinder normal sebum flow and waste elimination. It sounds helpful, but it doesn’t support skin function, which is why Abloom skips it.

Sebum, by the way, isn’t the enemy. It’s hydrating, mildly antibacterial, and helps move out daily grime and pollutants. When you block or fight it, skin often swings between oily and bone dry. Abloom’s approach is to balance sebum, not shut it down, so you won’t find suffocating occlusives or aggressive antibacterials here. The result is skin that has a calmer barrier, steadier moisture, fewer flare ups, and that ‘I slept well’ kinda glow.

Stressy, Sensitive & Easily Flushed? Let’s Talk Cortisol & Histamine

Did you know the skin actually has receptors for cortisol? Well, now you do. It has special receptors on the surface, oil glands and immune cells. When cortisol docks in these receptors, it tells those cells what to prioritise, like barrier repair, oil output, inflammation, collagen building and wound healing, so the priority changes depending on the environment.

What’s even more interesting is that skin can actually make its own cortisol. It carries a mini skin-HPA axis right there in the epidermis and hair follicles, and when it’s triggered by things like UV, pollution or irritation, it can make its own cortisol. This local stress loop can leave the skin sore, dehydrated, red, and with poor wound healing.

Cortisol also interacts with the sebaceous glands too. Stress can nudge your oil glands to produce more and to get a little inflamed, ending up with a shiny T-zone and stress spots. And then there’s histamine, and when under stress, your skin’s alarm cells release more of it, which can mean flushing, itching or that hot, tingly face from the tiniest triggers.

If stress is in the mix, here’s how it could show in your skin.

Diet can add fuel to the fire if you’re histamine prone.

You don’t need to cut everything, just avoid stacking lots of high histamine foods on the same day. This includes aged/fermented foods (feta, sauerkraut, kimchi, yoghurt), leftovers (meat/fish from the night before), and certain plants (spinach, tomato, aubergine, avocado) plus some nuts, dried fruit and dark chocolate.

For example, have sauerkraut at lunch but choose freshly cooked chicken, enjoy avocado and skip the tomato, or vice versa. Keep the “bucket” from overflowing and skin usually stays calmer.

Supplements (We Can’t Help Ourselves):

You know us, we love a good supplement, and felt it would be rude to not mention a few here. We’ll keep this super short and sweet, but here are our favourite supplements for histamine.

PS: We wrote a blog just a few weeks ago about our go to supplement for cortisol, so we won’t rewrite the wheel, but have a little read here to learn more.

  1. Quecetin: A brilliant mast cell calmer (immune cells in the skin that store and release histamine). It helps stop those cells from dumping histamine at every opportunity and supports antioxidant defences. It works nicely with vitamin C too.

  2. Vitamin C: Can lower circulating histamine and supports the enzymes that break it down. Split doses through the day work really well. Your adrenals also use a lot of vitamin C, so keeping levels topped up helps balance your cortisol levels.

  3. DAO enzyme: DAO is the main enzyme that breaks down histamine in the gut. A DAO capsule before high histamine meals can reduce the amount you absorb, which lowers the overall histamine load your body (and skin) has to deal with.

NB: DAO will only help with the meal in question. So, as effective as it is, we do recommend trying to support this enzyme with options like vitamin C as well.

  4. Restore or Defence: We all know by now that your gut trains your immune system on what to react to. Histamine friendly probiotics, and the prebiotics that feed them, can help tone down histamine type reactivity.

Restore contains 30 billion CFU to help balance enzymes and create a healthier gut terrain that supports histamine breaking enzymes, lowering the overall histamine your skin has to deal with. People often do best on blends that favour Bifidobacterium species and Lactobacillus plantarum, just like Restore.

Defence uses the same strains at a lower dose, making space for black seed oil, echinacea, vitamin C, zinc and more nutrients that support immunity and can help bring histamine down.

And for skin, Abloom is actually perfect for these kinds of symptoms. As they contain no synthetic perfume, triclosan, microplastics or heavy mineral oils, meaning fewer reasons for your skin to fire up that stress circuit in the first place.

    Meet the Hero Products

Right, back to where we left it. Like we said before, Abloom has a small range, and we love that about it. It doesn’t promise to remove wrinkles, but it can support the skin in healthy ageing so it continues to glow through all stages of life.

The dream would be to use all the products, of course. But many of us want a simple life, with the basics, so that’s what we’ll touch on here. However, the other products are brilliant too, so follow this link to read more about them.

    Day Cream

Most day creams use water, but Abloom uses aloe vera gel, to complement the 19 active ingredients in there. It’s rich, non greasy and has potent hydrating oils, anti-ageing botanicals and protective butters. Perfect for soothing irritation or reducing redness, so a great one for sensitive skin.

Ingredients include vitamin E, chamomile, echinacea, calendula, all very healing. For those who wear make-up, we recommend using the Day Cream and letting it set fully before applying make-up (not essential, but recommended).

    Night Cream

You may have come across Abloom’s Night Cream, as it finds its way into pretty much all our skincare blogs and newsletters. We are saddened for you if not, as anyone who goes through life not knowing about this night cream is a tragedy.

It’s one of those products people come back in to say how much they love. It is a must. So if you’re looking for a night cream, try this one. It’s enriched with shea butter which gives natural vitamin A like nourishment, vitamin C, grapefruit, lots of gorgeous oils and many potent extracts to help restore and hydrate the skin. Your skin the next day… pure silk!

    Purifying Cleanser:

This cleanser is so easy! It’s one of those that leaves your face a little squeaky because of how clean it is, but it’s so gentle too! It uses rosemary extract to purify and balance, and psyllium husk powder for a gentle exfoliation and cleanse.

The skin still feels really soft and hydrated afterwards, thanks to the aloe, coconut oil, and olive oil for nourishment. It’s great for all skin types, even sensitive skin and acne prone, as it gently reduces excess oil - not stripping it, soothes irritation and supports collagen production.

    Supreme Skin Elixir:

Firstly, this elixir is the winner of Dutch Beauty Award 2025, and only the best of the best win that award. And we totally see why, with 30 powerful botanicals and oils, working to enhance collagen production, reduce fine lines, protect against environmental stresses, and more. With plumping hyaluronic acid and tremella mushroom, strengthening grape seed and prickly pear, plus ceramides that help restore the skin barrier, there is literally everything in this one formula.

It was designed for 35+, to support the natural decline in collagen. It is incredibly active, so only use once daily. For skin younger than 35, it can be too strong. Abloom recommends anyone below 35 to use the Toner and Soothing Lotion for anti-ageing and anti-bacterial support, then finish with an oil (Miracle Oil) to help balance and protect the skin.

    Miracle Oil:

Hands down one of the most beautiful oils you could ever use. It’s a top pick at Therapy and has been since day one. Aside from us saying how amazing it is, the ingredients do the talking, with a mix of cold pressed oils, including Ayurvedic ingredients to help balance hormones, support cortisol balance and balance sebum.

It contains 22 active ingredients from hemp seed oil to liquorice root, bergamot oil, camphor oil and even lotus flower extract. It’s beautiful, and we know you’ll love it, so treat yourself.

    Selection of Masks:

Ok, not an every day basic but just want to add a quick one about their masks. They are so unique, and honestly really powerful. What we love the most is that they recommend mixing with honey, kefir and coconut yoghurt, as the honey has antibacterial and calming properties, and the kefir and yoghurt help to balance the skin microbiome. Here are the four they offer:

    Why We Love Abloom

We love Abloom as a bit of an underdog in the shop, but it really shouldn’t be. Honestly, their products are up there with the best brands in the industry. So we thought they deserved to be shouted about, and everyone deserves to feel their skin after using Abloom products.

We love that they never promise to erase your wrinkles in a week, but what they will promise it to soften, nourish, repair, rejuvenate, vitalise, and protect the skin. They call this slow ageing, which is slowing down the visible ageing process of the skin by supporting it, not fighting with nature.

Abloom will never use mineral oils to fake dewiness while blocking what your skin is trying to do. They don’t boil botanicals into oblivion and sell what’s left. But what Abloom will do is respect the organ in front of you by keeping enzymes alive, keeping formulas undiluted, and giving whole plant nutrition so your skin can repair, protect and age well. That’s why this quiet little range has had loyal fans for over a decade, and why, once you try it, it’s very hard to go back.
