Natrum Sulphuricum (or Nat Sulph), often called the Water Eliminator, is the third of the sodium-based tissue salts. While Nat Mur distributes water and Nat Phos balances acid, Nat Sulph focuses on detoxification processes and removing excess fluid from the system.
Sodium Sulphate (Nat Sulph) is traditionally associated with regulating the density of intracellular fluids by eliminating excess water, and also with supporting the balance of fluids within the body. It is described as being found within intracellular fluids, as well as in the liver and pancreas, where it plays a role in regulating the water density of tissues, including the liver, gallbladder, pancreas and colon.
In traditional tissue salt literature, Nat Sulph is noted as being found abundantly in sea water, and also as being formed by the action of sulphuric acid on sodium chloride. The detoxification of tissues is a central theme, allowing the body to avoid what is described as auto-intoxication. It is stated that the body requires one molecule of Nat Sulph to detoxify two molecules of water.
Liver support
Nat Sulph is described as largely influencing the healthy functioning of the liver, and also ensuring a free-flowing supply of bile, which is necessary for the later stages of digestion. It is traditionally considered in a wide range of liver conditions, including biliousness.
Detoxification
A key role of Nat Sulph is the elimination of poison-charged fluids, and also supporting their removal from the tissues in order to avoid auto-intoxication.
Pancreas
Associated with imbalances in pancreatic secretions, and also where digestive processes may be affected.
Kidney disorders
Traditionally considered where kidney-related issues are present, and also where fluid balance may be disrupted.
Digestion
Linked with the later stages of digestion, particularly where diarrhoea is present, and also where there may be gassiness.
Skin
Associated with itchy skin, and also where irritation may be linked with internal imbalance.
Rheumatic ailments
Traditionally used in rheumatic conditions, particularly where there is a build-up of waste fluids.
Respiratory conditions
Nat Sulph is linked with the respiratory system, and also where there are coughs with greenish or yellowish expectoration. Asthma and bronchitis are noted in traditional use.
Conditions of humidity
Particularly associated with conditions aggravated by damp or humid environments, including humid asthma and malaria.
Joint pain
Considered where joint pain is aggravated by damp weather, and also where fluid retention may be a contributing factor.
Fluid retention
Nat Sulph is associated with water retention, particularly where linked with damp conditions. In traditional literature, this retained water is described as containing toxins and byproducts.
Headaches
Used where headaches are associated with liver dysfunction, and also where exposure to damp or cold conditions may be a factor.
Mood and emotions
Associated with emotional states that are changeable (mood swings, irritability and also depression) particularly where linked with changes in weather or atmospheric conditions.
A deficiency of Nat Sulph is traditionally linked with a brownish-green coating of the tongue, and also a bitter taste in the mouth.
“Sacks” beneath the lower eyelids may be observed, and also a greenish-yellow colouring of the skin. An “alcohol nose” is noted in traditional literature, alongside a bluish-red colouring in more chronic states.
Spinach, Swiss chard and cabbage are included, alongside pumpkin and onions, and also grapes, oats and cucumber. Celery, apples and strawberries are also noted.
