In traditional medicine, Ferr Phos (Ferrum Phosphoricum or Iron Phosphate) is most famously associated with the initial stages of inflammation and the blood’s ability to carry oxygen.
While Calc Sulph is for the third stage of inflammation (yellow discharge), Ferr Phos can be seen more as the first aid choice for when symptoms just begin.
Phosphate of Iron (Ferr Phos) is traditionally associated with blood building and oxygenation, and also with supporting the movement of oxygen throughout the body. It is described as taking up oxygen from the air inhaled and carrying it through the bloodstream, increasing oxygenation at a cellular level.
It’s also noted as forming part of haemoglobin, and so is closely linked with the transportation of oxygen, as well as with supporting circulation through strengthening the walls of blood vessels. Increased oxygenation is considered valuable across a wide range of circumstances, and so Ferr Phos is often referred to as a “bio-chemic first aid remedy”.
Oxygenation and circulation
Ferr Phos is traditionally associated with carrying oxygen through the bloodstream and into the cells, and also with supporting the strength and tone of blood vessel walls, particularly the arteries, helping to maintain circulation.
First aid and early stages
Often described as a first aid tissue salt, it is traditionally given in the early stages of acute conditions, and also at frequent intervals until inflammatory symptoms begin to subside.
General support
It is traditionally used as a supplementary remedy, regardless of other conditions present (and also noted in traditional literature as being used alongside more serious conditions) with reference to supporting the vital force that sustains life.
Fevers and congestion
Ferr Phos is commonly associated with congestion linked to fevers, and also where colds or flu are present.
Anaemia and blood support
Traditionally used where there may be a lack of red blood corpuscles, and also in relation to anaemia. It is also referenced as a first aid remedy where haemorrhages are present.
Inflammation and circulatory demand
Associated with inflammatory states, and also where there is a quickened pulse, indicating an increased demand for oxygen.
Headaches
Traditionally considered in cases of headache, particularly where linked with circulation or oxygenation.
Later life support
Referenced in traditional use for ailments associated with advancing years, and also where vitality may be reduced.

In traditional tissue salt literature, Ferr Phos is not considered an iron tonic.
