In my twenties I remember feeling lost. I had a degree in International Business Studies & French, and career in Medical Marketing. My heart just wasn't in it and I didn't know what to do! My dream was to work at The Medicine Shop & Clinic in Alderley Edge. I used to go in and stare at the shelves, looking at the bottles of herbs, nutrients, lotions and potions, wishing I understood everything about them! That was my dream then, and it has led to where I am now.
In 2002 I chose to train to be a Bowen Therapist. When I stumbled upon this treatment I instantly knew if was for me. It thrilled me that I could learn a body technique that meant helping others, which works quickly and effectively with long lasting results, and is individual to each and every client. I haven't looked back. I trained with The European College of Bowen Studies, Julian Bakers school, who brought Bowen from Australia to the UK.
That was over 20 years ago. I applied to work at The Medicine Shop, and was delighted when I got the job. I practiced Bowen and was introduced to the world of natural health. I have been fortunate to work alongside some excellent therapists including nutritionists, acupuncturists and homeopaths. I learnt lots form the owner Kathryn about nutrition and herbs, and importantly digestive health. I remember sitting in on consultations and couldn't believe how people's lives were being changed after the nutritional changes they were making. I then became a consultant there offering candida consultations and bio-resonance testing. This taught me so much about the power of natural and holistic health.
I worked in all aspects of the business and got a grounding and desire to one day 'have our own health shop and clinic'.
I then worked alongside Alexandra Worsley in Bramhall and also with Jo who owns Amaranth. We had lots of fun! Along the way I continually trained in Anatomy, Physiology, Nutrition, Skincare and many more Bowen courses. Many of my Bowen teachers came over from Australia and we're as close to the original teachers as you could get at the time! I've studied structural, hormonal and lots of fascia related Bowen. Structure and function of the human body really do depend on each other, alongside good Nutrition. I found that combining structural work with nutrition and vice versa is so powerful.
Then Jackie and I set up Therapy Organics and our dream came true in 2013. I've continued to study where I can, and am currently working (slowly!) towards a Quantum Botanicals qualification, which combines healing diets, herbal medicine, tissue salts, essential oils and the energetic properties of plants and nutrition (and much more!) It includes some of the more traditional naturopathic methods which are fascinating, and re-gaining popularity.
There's so much to learn in this field and it often seems the 'more you learn, the less you know'. What I do know is that I'm so proud of the fantastic results we achieve in the shop and clinic helping people, and this is drives me to keep doing what we do. Natural health has such an important and powerful role in health of us as humans and also that of our planet. I can honestly say I've got the best job in the world.
